Last Wednesday on November 5th, The 48Th CMA Awards were shown on the T.V. Network ABC hosted by Carrie Underwood. Underwood is known for being one of the best female Country Artists out there with 126 award wins and 186 nominations for her music. She made headlines announcing her child's gender at the awards show. A baby boy is on the way!
While there were some amazing performances by Miranda Lambert and her husband, Blake Shelton. Keith Urban and Tim McGraw performed new singles off their upcoming new albums, but there was some confusion when Pop singer Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor performed their own music. Seriously CMA's? Stop trying to pull a Taylor Swift on us by mixing Pop and Country.
Meghan Trainor performed with Miranda Lambert in a forced country version of her hit single "All About That Bass". Even though that the performance was not the greatest, it had its high points. It is believed that music genres should not mix. Having a very well know Pop song being sung by a very well known Country artist could be confusing to watch.
Ariana Grande and Little Big Town performed a medley of "Bang Bang" and "Day Drinkin". While listening to the collaboration, I was confused why the CMA's thought it would be OK to mix a Pop and Country song. I thought the performances were awkward because Country artists were forced to sing a Pop song. True Country artists do not want to sing Pop music, there is a reason that they chose to be Country artists.
The CMA's thought that they could bring more attention to their award ceremony by including well known Pop artists. There is a reason that people were confused by the Pop singers because it is the Country Music Awards, not the Country and a Little Pop Music Awards. Ariana and Meghan are tremendious singers, but this awards ceremony was to show off Country artists and their own talent.
